We have just returned from Cornwall (5 August 2022). It has been many years since we have been and I had forgotten what a fantastic place that it is. The last few years we have been going abroad but, because problems with delays and cancellations at Manchester Airport, we decided to give Cornwall another try.

We booked Chalet 209 on Atlantic Bays Holiday Park about 10 minutes drive from Porthcothan Bay near Padstow on Cornwall's North coast. Porthcothan Bay has a great sandy beach which either goes out a very long way or a short way depending on the tide. Bodyboarding is very popular. Lifeguards patrol the beach until about 5.00 p.m.

On either side of the bay is the coastal footpath through cliff top fields. Fans of Poldark may recognise some of the fields. The producers of Poldark seemed to like filming Ross riding his horse through them.

Chalet 209

Atlantic Bays Holiday Park contains various sizes of chalet. Chalet 209 is, size wise, probably towards the middle.

It has 2 bedrooms containing a double bed in one and 2 single beds in the other. There is very little room around the beds.

Chalet 209

The living room and kitchen are in an L shaped room.

The living room contains a 2 seater sofa, 2 armchairs, and a television. The kitchen is well equipped with an oven, hob, fridge, microwave, kettle, and toaster.

It is advertised as having a washing machine but, when we were there, it did not have one. It had been replaced by a fridge/freezer. I am not sure why it needs a fridge/freezer as well as a fridge. The kitchen also had a fold down table but there was not enough room to put the table up. The bathroom contains a shower in the bath.

The chalet was clean. When we returned each evening, it was very hot inside even though the heating had not been out on. Although there are 4 beds, if 4 adults were to stay it would feel very claustrophobic. There were just 2 of us staying so it was great.

Chalet 209, like a number of chalets in Atlantic Bays Holiday Park, is managed by Sykes Holiday Cottages. If there is a problem with a managed chalet then you will have to get in touch with Sykes. The on-site reception will not help you.

Atlantic Bays Holiday Park Map

When we arrived on site we went to the reception. They gave us a map, which wasn't a great help. It only really gave us a general area in which to look for the Chalet.

It took us about 5 minutes to find the Chalet, which isn't a great amount of time, but it was unnecessary stress after a long drive. Once we found the Chalet, everything on the holiday was trouble free and great.

Atlantic Bays Holiday Park

Atlantic Bays Holiday Park is probably one of the most pleasant camp sites that I have stayed on. It is spotlessly clean.

The staff were very friendly and, when we stayed, so where the other campers.

The site includes a shop, laundrette, and bar/ restaurant. We didn't go to the bar/restaurant but there were always quite a number of people in it who seemed happy with it. Some nights there was entertainment but the noise was well contained within the building.

Atlantic Bays Holiday Park Childrens play space

There is a covered area outside the bar/restaurant next to a well equipped play area. You can therefore drink and watch the children at the same time.

The site uses number plate recognition for entry so make sure that you give them your number before you arrive.
