We booked the Elizabet Cruises island hopping cruise on the St. Nichola’s through the TUI rep but realised after that it would have been cheaper booking throughout the TUI app.

St Nicholas

We have been on a number of day and half day cruises over the years.  This is definitely the best cruise that we have ever been on.  Other cruises got a bit boring between stops but the crew never let this happen.

The cruise was advertised as being between 4 and 8 hours but actually took 9 hours and I can honestly say that that I enjoyed every minute of it. Probably helped by the two shots of free Ouzo but definitely helped by the very entertaining crew and the scenery. There was plenty of information and a lot of fun.

The cruise started from the port of Skiathos and took in the islands Skopelos and Alonnisos. Some people have reported seeing dolphins on the cruise but unfortunately we did not.  This did not stop the captain from entering us saying that there were dolphins on the right side of the ship, then on the left.  This was repeated until we realised that he was holding two toy dolphins and he was moving from one side of the ship to the other.

Mama Mia Church

There was other music but whenever we got to a scene from Mama Mia, songs from the film were played for about 15 minutes.

The first Mama Mia scene was the church with the long thin path up.  Suddenly Meryl Streep started singing “The Winner Takes It All”. Unfortunately we were not on the cruise that got off and walked up the steps but it made a great photo shoot.

Dancing Queen

Then came the first of the free ouzo while a member of the crew danced on the mast to the tune of “Dancing Queen” as Skopelos Town was coming into sight.

Skopelos Town

The stay at Skopelos Town was two hours.  We walked up the many steps to the top of Skopelos Town to get the incredible views while others on the cruise enjoyed the many tavernas on the front.  Then it was off to Alonnisos.

On Alonnisos we decided to pay an additional €5 for the coach trip to the pirate village.  This is the only part of the trip that I was disappointed in.  It was just a 45 minute stop at the village. Pirates may have lived there at one time but most of the buildings seemed to be modern. The 45 minutes was barely enough time to walk to the great view, buy an ice cream, and walk back down to get back on the bus.  The captain had joked that anyone who missed the ship would be picked up the following day.

Skull and Crossbones

Then it was back to Skopelos again.

On the way back we had to cheer the raising of the captain’s flag - the skull and crossbones. We then stopped at a lovely location which the captain assured us was the location for the scene from Mama Mia where the daughter was on the boat with her 3 “dads”. So it was more Mama Mia songs. It was then on to the beach scene where we stayed for about 1 hour.  The beach looks lovely but a bit sore on bare feet.

On the way back to Skiathos was more Ouzo and Greek dancing.  At some point, it turned into “YMCA”.  Most of the ship was dancing. Then came the realisation that we were close to the port and people in the tavernas were filming us

A great day out. I would highly recommend it.
