I have found Smart Plugs to be very useful. They can be set up to switch on and off at different times on different days. They can be controlled from other smart devices and on your phone from anywhere in the world.
The first Smart Plug that I bought was an Amazon Smart Plug. I used it to control a 3 plug extension lead with plugs to television, blue ray, and fire tv stick. At Christmas I used it to automatically turn on Christmas lights at sunset. It was very easy to set up and I have had no problems with it.
Amazon sell a vast array of Smart Plugs other than their own plug. Their own plug can not be controlled from the Google Home app or devices but more most other smart plugs they sell work with both Alexa and Google Home. One of them is the Hive Active Plug. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hive-ICESMRTPLUG-Active-Smart-Plug/
The Recommended Retail Price for the Hive plug is £39 but it has been reduced to £29 (29/12/21). The Hive Smart plug has a customer rating of 4.7/5. It requires a connection to a Hive Hub.
Hive Heating is a fantastic way to control the heating in your home (click here to read my review) but I would not buy the Hive Plug. It is a very good plug but it is far too expensive.
On the same day that Hive reduced their Active Plug to £32, the Philips Hue Smart Plug was £28, the Amazon Smart Plug was £29.99, and the Masa Mini Smart Plug was £17.66.
Conclusion
Smart plugs are very useful, but if I were going to buy another one, I would not go for the Hive plug. It is a very good plug. Requiring a Hive hub is not an issue for me as I already have a Hive Hub for my Hive Heating. It is just the price. I would go for one of the cheaper options that does not require a hub such as the Masa Mini Smart Plug.
